Our show combines work from three mediums: painting, collage, and film. Across these mediums we are exploring ideas relating to life, purgatory, family, and memory, under the collective title of Skulduggery. We wanted to explore fragments of the past, by modernising biblical themes in paint, collecting old letters and photographs, and by capturing moments in film. Despite our varied chosen mediums, we hope that shared underlying ideas can be recognised across the works in the show.

My two paintings are attempting to depict the equivalent of hell on earth: being incarcerated inside Her Majesty’s Prisons, exposing the eerie relation between correctional institutions and purgatory.

My project explores the idea of reimagining the memories of my family, from before I was born. My work is based around the collecting of old material ranging from letters and photography, to maps and receipts. I explored the idea of information as a physical medium, rather than something that inspires the work, having looked at artists such as Jo Spence and Real Floyer, who explore similar ideas.
